The Stuttgart Instruments Primus is a mode-locked femtosecond oscillator based on solid-state technology. It delivers high average output power with low relative intensity noise and power stability suitable for pumping frequency converters such as the Alpha. The oscillator is housed in a CNC-machined, water-cooled enclosure for mechanical and thermal stability.

Typical specifications include power stability < 0.25 %rms and Fourier-limited pulses with a time–bandwidth product below 0.35.
The relative intensity noise figure shows shot-noise limited performance at −168 dBc/Hz from approximately 100 kHz onwards.
